Friends and the North Central Education Foundation
Friends of the Lower Grand Coulee (FLGC) partners with the North Central Educational Foundation (NCEF) to provide classroom grants to local area school districts providing funding for small, impactful educational programs that will further the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of the geology, culture, history and natural beauty of the Lower Grand Coulee. This teacher classroom grant is awarded for projects or activities that occur inside, or outside the classroom in subject matter areas of social studies, literacy, music and arts, STEM and STEAM. Our intent is to help teachers tap into their own creativity, and provide them with that extra bit of funding that might not otherwise be available. |
2019-2020 School Year Grant Awards
The original intention of the FLGC grants was for projects to be completed during this school year, but school closures resulting from the pandemic made this time frame impossible for some. Those projects will be completed during the 2020-2021 school year. Click on this link for a complete list of grants awarded: 2019_2020_flgc_ncef_classroom_grants.pdf |

Wahluke School District Literacy Support
With the advent of remote learning, lack of access to public and school libraries, as well as lack of internet access, getting learning material into the hands of kids is more important than ever. Staff at Wahluke Junior High School developed a reading and literacy program that puts books directly into the hands of students who have limited or no online access to reading material, or access to a library. This program supports all reading levels and provides opportunity for participation in reading discussion groups. Individuals served: 150+ 8th grade students Grant amount: $1900 Grant period: 2020/2021 school year. |
